Thalli has fifteen minutes and twenty-three seconds left to live. The toxic gas that will complete her annihilation is invading her bloodstream. But she is not afraid.
Thalli is different than others in The State. She feels things. She asks questions. And in the State, this is not tolerated. The Ten scientists who survived the nuclear war that destroyed the world above believe that emotion was at the core of what went wrong—and they have genetically removed it from the citizens they have since created. Thalli has kept her malformation secret from those who have monitored her for most of her life, but when she receives an ancient piece of music to record as her community’s assigned musician, she can no longer keep her emotions secreted away.
Seen as a threat to the harmony of her Pod, Thalli is taken to the Scientists for immediate annihilation. But before that can happen, Berk—her former Pod mate who is being groomed as a Scientist—steps in and persuades the Scientists to keep Thalli alive as a test subject.
The more time she spends in the Scientist’s Pod, the clearer it becomes that things are not as simple as she was programmed to believe. She hears stories of a Designer—stories that fill her mind with more questions: Who can she trust? What is this emotion called love? And what if she isn’t just an anomaly, but part of a greater design?
Today, I’m so excited that author Krista McGee stops by and shares with us her dream cast for the book Anomaly.
I hope you’ll like the cast. 🙂

Thalli: Thalli is very much like my daughter, Emma, right down to the dimples and insatiable curiosity. Emma is also a gifted actress, so if I had the choice, I’d want her to star in the “Anomaly movie” as my Thalli. It could be her big break. 🙂
Berk: If Emma were Thalli, she would want Josh Hutcherson to play Berk. And I’m sure he would do a fine job, but I just don’t see him as my Berk. If I were casting, I’d pick Sterling Knight. He looks very much like the Berk I pictured, and I just loved him on “Sonny with a Chance” and “So Random.” I think he would rise to the challenge of playing this Scientist-in-training with a heart of gold.
Rhen: Thalli’s best friend is super analytical, calm, and beautiful. Very much like Nancy Drew! So my choice for Rhen would be Emma Roberts (because you can never have too many “Emma’s”!)
John: The “grandpa” figure in the story who teaches Thalli about the Designer, John is loving, godly, and incredibly wise. So my pick is not an actor, though he is comfortable in front of large groups of people. I can’t think of anyone who better embodies John than the beloved Billy Graham.
Dr. Loudin: Though not a stereotypical “villain,” the decisions Dr. Loudin makes does cause major problems for Thalli, Rhen and Berk. The actor who tackles this role needs to be able to convey an arrogance tempered with a confidence that he is doing what is best for everyone. My choice for Dr. Loudin, then, would be Tommy Lee Jones.
