“Forbidden love on a paradise planet that’s anything but paradise … Dionne’s Colonization will keep you guessing.” – Cherie Reich, author of Defying Gravity
Finding a new home has never been so dangerous.
Andromeda has spent all seventeen years of her life aboard a deep space transport vessel destined for a paradise planet. Her safe cocoon is about to break open as Paradise 21 looms only one month away, and she must take the aptitude tests to determine her role on the new world and her computer assigned lifemate. As a great-granddaughter of the Commander of the ship, she wants to live up to her family name. But, her forbidden love for her childhood friend, Sirius, distracts her and she fails the tests. The results place her in a menial role in the new colony and pair her with Corvus, “the oaf”.
But when Andromeda steps foot on Paradise 21, her predestined future is the least of her worries. Alien ghosts from a failed colonization warn her of a deadly threat to her colony. And when Sirius’s ship crashes on the far ridge in an attempt to investigate, she journeys to rescue him with Corvus.
Andromeda now must convince the authorities of the imminent danger to protect her new home. What she didn’t expect was a battle of her own feelings for Sirius and Corvus.
Can she save the colony and discover her true love?
Andromeda enjoyed her life on the spaceship. Everything felt familiar and she didn’t feel like she had to put in much effort into anything that she did. But with the spaceship reaching its destination, planet Paradise 21, Andromeda started to realize that her life would never be the same – her carelessness could cost her dearly and if she didn’t work quick enough to decipher the truth about why there weren’t any intelligent beings living on Paradise 21, the whole crew could suffer from irreversible devastation before they began building their colony on the planet.
At first, I found Andromeda careless, self-centered and immature. She seemed to be a smart person but had very little intention to focus her energy towards doing things that would make her demonstrate her leadership ability. Maybe she had doubt about her capability or maybe she didn’t want to accept responsibilities, she just kept assuming that she was a nobody. It was quite frustrating to watch her complain and when she behaved inconsiderately, I winced. Fortunately, she didn’t stay the same way throughout the book. Watching her evolve was actually quite inspiring. It wasn’t anything like she became a better person with the flip of a switch. She changed a little and then she slacked and became frustrated at herself. Then, she got angry and scared and lost but decided she wouldn’t give up just yet. It’s through watching her grow that I started to connect with her. And when she came to realize what she really wanted and started acting as though there were no tomorrow, I was moved. I felt in awe by her courage and I started to really like her.
But the character that I like the most is Corvus. Although he’s being labeled as “the oaf”, he is no oaf to me. He is humble. He pays attention to details. He knows when to say what and while he is a man of few words, he never ceases to amaze me by his sincerity and thoughtfulness. Let me tell you, every girl deserves a caring, supportive boyfriend just like him!
What about Andromeda’s childhood friend, Sirius? He’s smart and fairly nice, but maybe he’s too sure of what he wants and how to get things in his favor that I just don’t find him attractive. I wouldn’t say he’s arrogant or bad, but he is no gentleman compared to Corvus.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. While some events were fairly predictable, I still had a great time reading the book because of Corvus. So, if you’d like to meet Corvus, you know what you must do… Get. The. Book.
Happy Reading! 🙂
Sirius turned to me. “Annie, what’s wrong?”
The question came from nowhere and everywhere. It had hung between us for as long as I could remember, becoming the one unknown dominating my life. I finally asked what I’d been wondering, hoping. “Do you think we’ll be paired together?”
Sirius’s eyes were dark oceans of mystery. He blinked and shrugged. “We’ll worry about that when the time comes. For now, let’s enjoy ourselves.”
