Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don’t kill him first, that is.
Obsidian begins with Katy trying her best to unpack and settle in her new home in West Virginia. Being a book blogger, it’s hard for her to not go online, but with the internet not yet hooked up in her new home, she has no choice but to accept her dismal situation. When her mom suggests her to make new friends with the next-door neighbors, Katy agrees. She goes next door and meets Daemon, but Daemon quickly irritates her with his arrogant attitude. Later in the same day, she meets Daemon’s sister, Dee, and finds that Dee, unlike Daemon, is totally nice and friendly. As days go by, Katy begins to learn bits and pieces about some of the unhappy things that have happened to her neighbors. One incident after another leads her to discover that her next-door siblings are not humans, but aliens coming from Lux, a planet that has been destroyed by their enemies…
I had lots of fun reading this novel. Obsidian is action-packed, entertaining and… hot. Daemon is one extremely undeniably irresistably hot male!! He is loyal to his family, dutiful to his race and protective for his loved ones. He can be arrogant, but he also has a contemplative aspect that is quiet and charming. Katy is not the popular type but she is caring, beautiful, smart and ethical. Being a book lover/ blogger myself, I can totally relate to her passion for books, and her disappointment when the internet is not hooked up in the house or when her laptop is not functioning! It’s also amusing to watch how Katy keeps denying the smoking hot chemistry that she has with Daemon and then the tension builds up and peaks in Chapter 26!! (Spoiler Warning: DO NOT click the following link if you have not read Obsidian. But if you have read and loved Chapter 26, go to http://jenniferarmentrout.blogspot.ca/2011/12/1000-votes-daemons-pov-from-obsidian.html and read Daemon’s POV!!! After reading it myself, I could boldly say… you won’t be disappointed!)
This is my first book by Armentrout and I’ve enjoyed it tremendously. I think I’m going to take a break, and then when I come back to my desk, I’m going to grab Shadows (a Lux novella) and start reading it. 🙂
