When all is lost, he will have to make the ultimate decision.
Kellen St. James was just your average seventeen-year-old prodigy, until he eighty-sixed the Lord of Faerie and proposed to the Celtic Goddess, Calienta. But then everything in Kellen’s life gets turned upside-down when he and Cali end up on the run from a seriously irritated group of faeries. The worst part? They have zero idea why they’re being hunted.
Suddenly, Kellen is stuck in the middle of another prophecy that foresees him turning away from Calienta and embracing the dark. He’ll be forced to take sides in a struggle to claim his birthright, while discovering secrets about his father’s past. Meanwhile, his passion for Cali grows stronger, even as the prophecy threatens to tear them apart.
In the end, will Kellen and Cali survive the fates? When the ultimate power is within reach, which side will he choose?
With a book summary that suggests secrets and struggles, The Fallen Stars opens with things going awry when Kellen is about to have his most cherished moment with Calienta. Will Kellen make the right choice to honor his heritage?
To be honest, I wasn’t too fond of the first half of the story. Most of the crucial details about the prophecy weren’t revealed till much later in the book and I felt like not much was going on in the first portion. But when secrets were gradually revealed in the latter half of the book, I found myself turning the pages faster and faster, eager to learn more about the secrets among Kellen’s family members. What I liked about Kellen was his desire to protect those whom he cared and loved. He might not have a perfect personality but he definitely wasn’t weak or helpless. Cali seemed uncertain about what she could do at the beginning but as she got a better understanding about how things were heading, she became determined to fight against the negative circumstances. It’s interesting to see her transformation. New characters were introduced and I was surprised/ excited about their hidden agenda. I really couldn’t tell who could be a friend or foe to Kellen and Cali till the last page. Things seemed a little confusing at the end as I felt I didn’t receive enough answers to explain why and how a missing character would show up and be reunited with Kellen. I guess I’ll have to read the third book to find out more.
Although I liked the plot of the first book better than this installment, I still enjoyed the character development of both Kellen and Cali in this story. I just hope they’d find their ways back to one another in the next book.
